    💸

Price too good to be true

If the rent is significantly below market rate for the area, that's a major red flag. Scammers lure victims with unbeatable prices.

    📸

    Stock or stolen photos

Reverse-image-search the listing photos. Scammers often steal photos from real listings or use stock imagery.

    🏖️

    Landlord is 'out of town'

If the landlord says they can't show the unit because they're overseas, military, or on a mission trip — walk away.

    💳

    Wire transfer or crypto only

Legitimate landlords accept checks or secure payment platforms. Requests for wire transfers, gift cards, or crypto are almost always scams.

    🔑

    No in-person tour

Never sign a lease or send money without physically visiting the property. 'Virtual tours only' is a common scam tactic.

    📝

    Vague or copy-pasted descriptions

Watch for generic listing text, excessive emojis, or descriptions that don't match the photos or address.

    Urgency and pressure tactics

Phrases like "act now," "first come first served," or artificial deadlines are used to prevent you from thinking clearly.

    🏛️

    No verifiable address

Always confirm the address exists and matches the photos. Search on Google Street View to verify the property looks as described.

    How it works

Paste a rental listing URL or the listing text into the analyzer. RentSentry checks for common scam indicators — suspiciously low pricing, pressure language, payment red flags, and more — then returns a trust score from 0 to 100 along with specific red flags found.

    What we check

    • Price vs. local market comparisons
    • Payment method requests (wire, crypto, gift cards)
    • Urgency and pressure language
    • Landlord availability claims
    • Listing quality signals (photos, description detail)
    • Known scam phrase patterns

    Limitations

RentSentry is a screening tool, not a guarantee. Always visit properties in person, verify landlord identity, and never send money without a signed lease. When in doubt, trust your instincts.
